Eric Lockard, DPLA Fellow

Eric earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the Virginia Military Institute. He began his teaching career as a Fellow of the lateral entry program NC INSPIRE. He taught 7th Grade Science at Neal Middle School in Durham. Additionally he served as Department Chair, Team Lead, SIT team member, and coach of the Science Olympiad, Football and Lacrosse teams. During his residency year, he served as the Principal Resident for Bethesda Elementary School in the fall of 2017. In January 2018, he transitioned to W.G. Pearson S.T.E.A.M. Elementary School where he serves as the Assistant Principal while he completes his residency.

Vision Statement
It is vital for a school leader to have a vision that guides them in their practices.  It is Eric's opinion that every decision a leader makes should be processed through the lens of their vision.

Resume
A detailed resume that includes Eric's educational and work experiences is provided.  Eric has received degrees and or certifications from three colleges.  His career in education started with him being a science teacher and currently has him serving as an Assistant Principal.  Prior to teaching he worked in the environmental consulting field.

The Durham Principal Leadership Academy (DPLA) is the latest iteration of the Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA). DPLA is part of the larger work of increasing student achievement by preparing principals in high-poverty, hard-to-staff, and historically low-performing schools.
