Standard VI: External Development and Leadership
A. Parent and Community Involvement and Outreach: The school executive designs structures and processes which result in parent and community engagement, support and ownership for the school.
All Pro Dad Events - Bethesda Elementary
The All Pro Dad's breakfast was a monthly event that I led while at Bethesda Elementary School. All Pro Dad's is an organization that is on a mission to help fathers love and lead their families well. At Bethesda, we focused on providing fathers with methods and practices to increase their involvement with their student's academic and social emotional growth. At each event we provided breakfast and/or light refreshments, hosted guest speakers, and had the students and fathers engage in educational and collaborative activities.

Community Involvement - W.G. Pearson
In December of 2017 a Family and Community Liaison was hired to coordinate community outreach initiatives. He frequently meets with myself or the principal to discuss/brainstorm ideas and receive authorization to implement different programs. With his initiatives, as a school we have greatly ramped up our outreach to the parents and community leaders. We are currently holding monthly parent support sessions, Saturday academy, starting community clubs and school fundraising initiatives. Due to these endeavors we have seen a rise in parental involvement. For example, at our recent Math Title I night we more than doubled our typical turnout for a parent involvement event.

B. Federal, State and District Mandates: The school executive designs executive protocols and processes in order to comply with federal, state and district mandates.
SIG Grant Compliance
W.G. Pearson is a recipient of a NCDPI School Improvement Grant. As a result we have to coordinate and comply with many conditions of the grant in terms of documentation and actions. The grant provides us with additional funding that helps us purchase materials, resources, incentives and hire additional personnel. As a result we have to show NCDPI how we are utilizing the funding to grow the school's academic performance. This occurs through several NCDPI Priority School Quality Reviews (PSQR) and SIG Monitoring visits. The PSQR reviews include a detailed review of the school by NCDPI which results in a detailed report indicating how well we have addressed the School Improvement Plans priority indicators. The SIG Monitoring Visits are less intensive and are focused on seeing how we are addressing areas of concern brought up from the previous PSQR.

Title I Coordinator
One of the roles that I took on upon becoming Assistant Principal at W.G. Pearson Elementary is Title I Coordinator. As such I have been directly involved in all Title I Parent Involvement Events and their associated documentation. Additionally, I am leading the efforts to collect all Title I compliance documentation.
