School TeamsAt W.G. Pearson we have numerous teams that utilize their individual skill sets to help guide the school towards improved academic performance. As Assistant Principal I am an active member of virtually all the teams and at times lead the meetings or action items associated with completing the teams goals. Agendas from several of the team meetings are provided.

Staff FeedbackAt W.G. Pearson we are routinely looking to gauge the staff's perception and recommendations for improving the school. A recent component of our monthly staff meeting has been to seek areas of concern from the staff. Teachers were allowed to collaborate and indicate their major areas of concern in terms of the school and their working conditions. Upon reviewing their areas of concern we found four major areas; Time, Resources, Instructional Assistants, and Technology. At a follow-up meeting we than had the teachers provide specific areas of concern and potential solutions in another collaborative session. As a leadership team we have analyzed these concerns and taken steps to meet the needs as appropriate. Additional ways we are seeking feedback include internet based surveys.

School Board MeetingsDuring my time as a DPLA fellow we were invited to attend several school board meetings. At these meetings were able to learn about various initiatives that are happening within the district as well as policies that are being implemented in the district per state mandates. One such issue that was discussed was the class size reduction for kindergarten through third grade and the fallout that is associated with this requirement. One district initiative that was also discussed that impacted my school was the hiring of ERG to assist beginning teachers within the district at targeted schools. My school is receiving this benefit and I was able to discuss its intention with my staff as a result. I have found that being informed of these issues has allowed me to better make decisions or make recommendations to help move the school forward.
